Will Insurance Cover Clear Aligners?

This depends on your plan. We work with most insurance providers and will work to verify your coverage, maximize your benefits, and reduce your out-of-pocket costs. Most of our patients choose in-house clear aligners because they receive a comparable treatment at a lower price point. Getting started tends to take less waiting, too. Dr. Hau designs treatment plans so you can trust that your series of aligners will be just as effective as aligners made in an Invisalign lab.
If you have a more complex case or a case that requires attachments, Dr. Hau may recommend Invisalign instead. Invisalign treatment typically costs $3,000–$6,000 at our office due to third-party fees and name-brand materials.
No matter what you choose, you’ll receive smooth, comfortable trays you can take out to eat and clean. Both systems involve checking in about every six weeks for an evaluation and new aligners. During your free consultation, Dr. Hau will review both options and make recommendations based on your case and budget.

Because aligner trays are removable, there are no dietary restrictions during your treatment. With traditional braces, you have to be mindful not to eat certain foods as you undergo orthodontic treatment.

Are You a Candidate for Aligners?
You may be a good candidate for clear aligner treatment if:

- Your teeth and mouth are healthy enough and free from decay, gum disease, or other dental issues that may hinder treatment.

- You are responsible enough to maintain your aligners and not lose them.

Finish Treatment
With a Retainer
Straightened teeth will drift back into their old misaligned positions if nothing is holding them in place, so clear aligner treatment ends with a retainer. Invisalign patients can receive a Vivera™ retainer, but we can also create retainers at our in-house lab.
How Often to Wear Your Retainer
This will depend on your case, but Dr. Hau will let you know how often to wear your retainer once she provides it at your final appointment. She may recommend wearing your retainer for 20–22 hours a day for the first few months or every night indefinitely.
On-Site Modifications
If you lose or break your retainer, or yours needs to be modified for comfort, we can make changes in our lab. Because we have our own lab, adjustments and turnaround times are fast.

How long does treatment take?
This varies from patient to patient depending on how severe their misalignment is and if they follow treatment requirements. Mild misalignment can often be corrected in just 12 months, while more severe issues may take 18-24 months. On average, treatment takes about 18 months.

Can my child use clear aligners?
There is no set age for clear aligner treatment. However, your child must be responsible enough to wear the trays for the required time and not lose them. If your child cannot properly maintain the trays or wear them for the required time, braces may be a better option for them.
How long do I have to wear a retainer after treatment?
To maintain your results, our orthodontist suggests you wear a retainer at night for the rest of your life. This will prevent your teeth from shifting back into their misaligned positions.
